The full title of the ERA-Chemistry programme is Implementation of joint bottom-up European programmes in chemistry and it aims at establishing a bottom-up European Research Area in curiosity driven chemical research (including links to applied research) without noticeable national, formal and research subject boundaries.
ERA-Chemistry will set up a common information system on reviewing and funding of chemical research in
Innovative research fields with high European added value and that are particularly suitable for transnational research efforts will be determined. With the ascertaining of these research fields, European chemists will be encouraged to initiate and reinforce transnational cooperation in joint research projects.
To assist future achievements of this network, shared transnational electronic infrastructure facilities will be set up. These facilities include this website, effective common electronic communication tools and joint electronic processing and evaluation of transnational proposals and programmes.
Most importantly, the long term objectives are durable research programmes in basic and applied research. As part of the programme, ERA-chemistry will initiate bottom-up joint European research programmes in chemistry in all degrees of complexity, including combined management of these programmes.
Finally, ERA-Chemistry will provide a framework for national research councils to align part of their resources into chemistry based transnational research programmes. This last goal arguably is the most ambitious one, and ways to overcome national financial borders with respect to the money follows researcher and the money follows cooperation line schemes must be found.
ERA-Chemistry will contribute to implement the European Research Area by improving the coherence and coordination across
