2nd Flash Conference
The 2nd ERA-Chemistry Flash Conference "Catalysis without Metals"
28-31 October 2007
Évora Who FCT, Portugal
Many industrially used heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts are based on metal compounds.
The limited availability of many catalytically active metals, especially noble metals, requires the development of new concepts in catalysis which rely on abundant elements.
The Flash Conference will focus on the possibilities offered by the non-metallic or semi-metallic main group elements including carbon.
Topics:
• Catalysis by specially tailored organic compounds (excluding simple acid-base catalysis and catalysis by enzymes)
• Mimicking enzymes by structures built from non-metallic elements
• Activated carbons as catalysts
• Catalysis by molecular or solid boron, silicon, phosphorus or selenium compounds
• Catalysis on nanostructured surfaces
Visionary experimental and theoretical contributions from all areas of chemistry are solicited which address this issue with focus on novel concepts rather than proven applications.
